The book and an English Dictionary led me to learn that the, "red-coated guard and hornblower, tootling on a long coaching horn", is in fact called a Postillion.

We used this picture last week in a seperate thread as this chilling horse drawn reminder of the transient nature of life came by...and on the main road too.
Will keep an eye out for the stagecoach mentioned, certainly a good one for the cameras.

Not sure of the comfort on riding in or on one of those, but from a nostalgia point of view, it looks wonderful.
I wonder if it was held-up by modern-day highway-men - no road-tax I'm sure, that's enough high-way robbery.
Roger - 2 July 2012 08:34181050I was stuck behind it going along Barton Road last night, not that I minded it was very impressive. I certainly would not mind it turning up at the Crabble Corn Mill 200 year celebrations in August it really would fit the bill.
