ASLEF General Secretary, Mick Whelan and 30+ ASLEF Area Delegates are visiting East Kent Railway and Kent Miners today.
They will arrive by train at around 12.20 where they are particularly interested in our Training & Apprentice schemes and they want to chat with some of our Apprentices, to see how they can support our local youth.
This will be followed by a tour of our railway.
Then they will be whisked away by Thomsetts Coaches, to visit the Welfare Club in Mill Hill arriving around 3pm, for some refreshments. followed by speeches and a Kent Mining Presentation given by Jim Davies.
This visit follows a kind invitation to me from Mick Whelan to speak at their ASLEF Annual Conference in Brighton earlier this year, I am delighted that they have accepted my invitation for them to visit us here in Kent, to see what progress EKRT are making with finding employment for our local youth, within the Rail Industry and they were very keen to return to the welfare club, where 30 years ago they were delivering money, food parcels and of course Christmas Presents for our striking miners children"
