17:5089431After more than 12 months considering my voting intentions as you al know im a lefty sociaist, and no electable party reaches my aims, so what happens in may?
well having thought long and hard about what to do i have made my decision and i dont have secrets on the voting like other forumites(undrerstand another forumite is secrety standing for tories, why such a big secret?)
for my part i look to the priory maxton ems vale ward and the 3 seats up for election.
i understand that d smalwood known to many as an ex mayor is one of the three labour candidates, why? because she was de selected from tower hamets not for better candidates(john excuded hes a great cllr)
this is a sad day for me dianne did a fair job, and recently suffered a life threatening disease
so i wil take an unusual step for me and because of the labour parties actions of getting rid of dianne i wil vote for dianne in priory area
now usualy i woud be out there campaigning in priory this time i wont be as the labour party locally will only be getting that one vote from me.
sue jones is another candidate and i, like many in priory wont be voting for her
im tempted also to campaign against her.
i'm sti waiting to replies i sent to the local party which must be a year ago.
so for me as much as it pains me big big time
and as a true labour person i will only be giving one of my votes to the party for d smallwood and wish her well
of course my small protest wont change much and even if labour only wins one seat i dont want the tories in any more than the other 2 labour candidates
quite a dilema for me.
sadly though the tories are likey to gain on this.
for me i will prob help gordon in st rads
but will also be campaigning for an indy elsewhere.
but a true indy
im hearing also that labour localy selected 3 candidates in Deal but because the third one wasn't a woman 2 were selected the third(a male)is still waiting while the party trys to find a woman what a shambes no woman stood the party faithful went for these 3 candidates
for me i fought within the party against women only shortists woman should get there by abiity, also as i pointed out to the party the guidlines for getting more women involved is just that a guidline
i would never vote for an imposed candidate.
boy am i glad i got out when i did.

18:3389441Actually I applaude Keith for both his honesty here and for standing by his principals.
I disagree with him on detail, of course and this is a demonstration of the deep splits that exist in the local Labour Party between the 'Gordon faction' and the 'Sue Jones faction'. But, nevertheless he is standing by his beliefs and in respect of the imposition of so called 'positive discrimination' over the heads of local activists he is dead right.

18:3989445you're one up on me barry, i never knew that there were factions in the reds.
seems a great pity as both gordon and sue have served dover well in a mayoral capacity and both fight their corner at councils.
there always different views in each party, just a great pity that a public face of general agreement cannot be shown.

18:4289447LOL Howard- have you not read anything about Mayor Making over the last two years, plenty was said about it on the forum!
Gordon and his faction even went so far as to vote against a vote of thanks to Sue Jones last year....

i have from the outset always said it as it is.
its not about gordon or sue
it's about the local party in general
and nowt to do with toys out of the pram
its just me being honest once again
iv not highlighted within this thread the many splits within the tory party which i have friends in, and clearly there are.
but its just about my feelings at this time
an honest outlook
this has not come overnight but over a few years.
to touch on the town council yes there are issues but its about
labour or not
simple as that
iv always said that because of these differences maybe people should stand alone
but certainly the iikes of sue jones you wouldnt see elected again.
anyway iv given my small imput and will now sit back and watch
i have phoned d smallwood to tell her i will only be voting for her.
and i wish her well

19:1689454i have read about all that playground stuff at the mayor making, different issue though.
the mayor is a non political figure that like wearing argos bling and going around helping people.
district council is a much more serious business.

21:3889471i have never seen sue or any other mayor play a political card, they are always photographed opening fetes, awarding certificates at school prize givings or welcoming new local businesses.
our front page proves my point.

08:1189484That must have been very disappointing for Diane, a lovely Lady and a good figure-head for Dover when she was Mayor.
I'm surprised that she is standing again, I would have thought she would have wanted to take it easy now.
Who-ever stands in Maxton, Elmsvale and Priory, from whatever party, I will stand on my record of supporting people and the community and doing my best for Dover.
I certainly don't believe in women only - or men only candidates for that matter.
I'm not going into the politics of the Town Council as I feel there are good and bad Councillors of both parties and personalities play a bigger role there than politics does.
