Not fit to run the company

The great myth of 'private is always best' exposed yet again for the falsehood it is. I'd love to switch my business away from Southen Water - they are incompetent, overpriced and appallingly badly run. But, of course, I can't. The dictatorship of a privatised monopoly prevails.

The regulators are toothless. £90m fine will affect their balance sheet temporarily and perhaps bleed into profit and loss for a year.

They should be stripped of their franchise. Any company wishing to jump onto the gravy train of replacing them should be made aware that its directors could be held personally responsible for negligence.
