    Unfortunately, as a heavily unionised industry, able, along with the dockers and the colliers to bring the country to its knees (did anyone actually ever get fired for anything without the bruvvers threatening to down tools) it must have been great to work for. Job for life even when your role was redundant.

    In terms of 'customer Service' however .....

    While the Japanese were enjoying their first High Speed Train in 1964 I was still at Bridgwater railway station getting covered in smoke collecting engine numbers.
