There are strong rumours from within Network Rail that Folkestone Central is to close. A small fortune has been spent at Folkestone West on improving car parking facilities - so there is no chance of them closing that station. The massive development being planned at the Shorncliffe barracks site has consolidated the case for its retention. Dover-London 59mins -maybe.The big issue of course is the future of the route between Dover and Folkestone-a ticking time bomb of confusion, delay and clamouring to improve the Dover route to London via Canterbury. The years of controversy will roll on.
