Yesterday I was talking to a serving British soldier in Afganistan on leave. At age 26 he is already a veteran of the action there. He explained that the UK rules are draconian-a Taliban insurgent has to be aiming his rifle at your position before you can shoot him. Even if you see one preparing a roadside bomb you cannot shoot him. Apparently satellite and drone TV is watching your every move and the Military Police are ready to pounce. Evidently the Yanks don't give a toss with a general 'bomb the bastards' attitude. The Brit interpretation of the Geneva convention is the strictest in the world. This veterans final words on this-'that's why we are losing the conflict'.
