Apparently there's a solar storm heading for earth this morning. Did anyone else see Horizon on Tuesday night? Forget climate change, it seems to me this is what we should really be worried about and it hardly ever gets mentioned. Just Google "Coronal Mass Ejection" if you want to be scared. The one today may not cause much disription, but there will be others and they will be bigger.
I noticed the sky was marvellously bright and spectacular last night. So much so that it inspired me to try and take a picture at ISO 3200. Its just a snap but gives you the idea. Two stars were showing up extremely bright. Thought one might be the spacestation but I dont know...
I heard about the solar storm via the BBC..maybe the aforementioned had something to do with the clarity last night, it seems the Northern Lights may become visible further south.
I saw the Horizon programme. There was much mention of millions of metres per second and such and that 'we' would have 16 hours or so of an early warning via satellite. Not a mention of thee big 'C', the speed of light.
It, as I understand it, takes light (itself a form of electromagnetic energy) about eight minutes to get from the Sun to Earth, yet we can get warning of Solar-flares, themselves forms of electromagnetic radiation, far in excess of eight minutes.
Did I make tea at the wrong time?
This might bring 'air-raid' sirens that adorn Library roofs back into action. If a call went out to switch everything off...how would we get the all clear?

Interesting that the two planets/stars shown were featured on Meridian News....they definitely are showing really bright right now and in close proximity, so worth watching out for tonight if we are cloud clear.
Im not sure if the solar storm is over but it caused less damage than the normal storm the other day. All electronic data still functioning...touch wood.
paulb,it was that cove martin davis who brought it to light so to speak,apparently viewers send him photos of unusall things and the bright stars/planets turned up.
Well thats an interesting link Tom, confirms that Im not losing it entirely....lol!! saw these planets ( Jupiter and Venus) again last night but unfortunately they were nowhere near as clear as on the original night with the solar energy thingy. But should be worth watching again closely for the opportunity of a good clear night.
Mark such cheek oooh I say...but yes I can confirm that I can just make out Uranus from my window..when the curtains are open !!
