Wow, that's some piece of technology. Hopefully she will be around for the traditional sail round the harbour on Sunday afternoon. Can anyone actually stand on the deck?

Taken from the Western Heights at about 17.30 yesterday.

And here's another to give a perspective of her size.

I just showed my 17 year old grandson the pictures and his first question was, "I wonder how fast it goes, you don't get much power from solar".
Typical boy. Can I have one as well? I mean boat not boy.

Ugliest looking boat I've seen for a long while, hopefully it is only a prototype.

I'd love to stand on the top of it like the guy in Jacqui's pic.

Looks impressive - I think it is on a 160 day round the world tour.
Only does 9.5 knots apparently, but looks fast !!

Diane, one can't stand on the deck, as it has none. The 'deck' it seems to have is a special kind of glass to receive light, sun-light.
However, there is also a technology called photo something or another, which receives power merely from light, sun or no sun. This latter technology is very expensive and too ineffective to be used commercially.
As for the solar-power system, which is the case of this boat, it is also too uneconomical to be used other than for a show-off.

These things are a good start to prove that such things/scale are possible.

Contrary to your post Alexander and see Jacqui's photo, one can stand on the solar panels.

Admittedly it is not very beautiful but an example of new technology which is not polluting earth, sea or sky.
