He is entirely correct.
A clear judgement-call has to be made before personal details are given out. At no time should the default position be that 'full name,' DOB, or home/work address is to be put forward.
This has nothing to do with cyber-bullying or anonymity.
The fact that a social networking site of any sort usually requires that an email address be validated gives any site owner a route to your actual name and address.

I also tend to agree with him, I have never understood why any internet site would need to know my address unless they are making a delivery and nobody needs to know my birthday or phone number unless absolutely necessary.

i cannot imagine anyone giving out there full address on a social networking site but a name should not be a problem.

A name is one thing, a full name is another. Then we get into 'peculiar' names and those born, raised, schooled etc. in the UK, but have decidedly foreign names.
How many 'Abdul's would get their views across?
