13:1170556according to press reports the education secretary michael gove is drawing up plans to give children from poorer families precedence over the children of "middle england" in gaining admission to academies and the new "free" schools.
this socialist sounding idea is expected to spark outrage among the better off parents who believe that they are being sidelined by the party they voted for.

13:5670559A sop to the LDs and, at best a bit silly really.....
Jan - dont worry, you dont have to read 'boring' politics if you dont want to

14:2270561If Gove really wanted to do something for poor kids with potential who are now languishing in their local 'sink' schools he would bring back Grammar Schools countrywide.

14:3070562just initiating scintillating debate jan.
this levelling up will certainly sting the blue core vote, preference is being given to those pupils on free school meals.
mind you they may deserve any help they can get after eating one of those.

It is almost inconceivable that Gove would do such a thing. Ridiculous, and along the same lines, as I am sure I have said somewhere else, as encouraging the less academic to go to Uni. A waste of resources that could be better targetted.

18:5770630looks like we have underestimated nick and his chums, they seem to have an influence out of proportion to their vote.

21:2570689The LDs have to have their wins - its part of the grubby coalition game that we are sadly having to play. Common in other countries but hopefully wont be necessary after the next GE in 5 years.

21:5970697coalition deals work elsewhere, i rather like the idea of people having to work together measured against the arrogance of power that i have seen from the blues and reds in my lifetime.

You are correct, but the Lib Dems playing a very dangerous game.
Tories as brianw says will ditch them at earliest opportunity.

07:37707734-5 years Keith - if the LDs pull out of the coalition before then they will be committing political suicide.

21:4371017its suicide for the LIB Dems anyway, barryw.
So they would be better going after 18 months in the hope of re building.
