After the election of a new leader and also after a conference political parties usually get a poll bounce. It would be unusual not to, particularly when in opposition and facing a government facing up to a lot up unpopular decisions.
Well after Labour's conference it did not happen.
Ok one poll, the YouGov daily did give Labour a 1% lead but that disappeared a day later turning into a 2% Conservatiove lead.
Today in the ComRes/Independent:
39% Conservative
36% Labour
15% LibDems
- a 3% Conservative lead.
This bodes ill for Labour. Yes, I still expect them to claw a mid-term lead when the cuts bite but, in the way or normal politics, once the fruits of the tough decisions show they will fade and by the time of the next election will face the wilderness again where they belong.
It seems the public are not as stupid as Labour think they are.
