Reports of a brief snow cover have emerged from the usual suspects like Whitfield and Hawkinge, on higher ground and a little inland.
In these marginal situations Dover seems to have a snowline. This time I suspect it was over about 300 feet.
I remember a case back in 2003, I think. I had been enjoying Dover town centre's night-time economy, occasionally glancing out at the wet snow and sleet teeming down, but not concerned, as it was not settling.
In the taxi back I noticed a little bit of snow sticking at Buckland Bridge and by the time we reached the bottom of Whitfield Hill it was a transformed scene, a total whiteout. It was definitely the wrong kind ofsnow, wet and sticking to everything, and a layer of an inch or two was causing a lot of vehicles to slide around.
This sort of situation is not unusual in Dover, with its many hills and valleys. - 16 December 2011 17:50142717Made me smile on your post 6 Howard, I thought you'd put "the weather was a lot better when gordon brown ruined the country.

roger ,labour snow is better than tory snow,talk about cut backs tory snow brought the country to a stand still labour snow didnt.
