Walked past these traffic lights a lot recently and they are on a permanent cycle of going green to enter/exit Union Street, so all traffic has to stop on the A20 every minute or so.
Is this a deliberate plan, or just faulty lights that no-one has reported?

Last time I drove out of Union Street I had to wait through four sequences before I was let out. I've noticed before that the main road often goes red for no apparent reason.

On my wet Sunday morning walk I see these lights aren’t working at all now, which is probably better.

For ages those lights have got stuck. If you are trying to get out of Union St you need to hop out of the car and press the pedestrian button, then leg it back before they change. That seems to sort it.

Union Street [Junction] Upgrade Works
As part of preparations for the 2025 EES Go Live, National Highways will be carrying out upgrade works at Union Street Junction. These improvements will enable two right-turn lanes from Union Street onto the A20, along with a new left-turn option.
To safely complete these works, the following restrictions will be in place:
Phase 1: Monday 9 June – Friday 11 July
- Access only onto Union Street from the A20
- A diversion will be in place via Wellesley Road to return to the A20
Phase 2: Monday 14 July – Monday 29 September
- Full closure of Union Street
- A signed diversion will remain in place via Wellesley Road
Union Street will be open for traffic over the Regatta Weekend, 12th & 13th July.
[From the Port's Facebook thingy - pretty damn difficult to find otherwise.]
