  Some years ago I was in a cafe in central London in the middle of the afternoon having a late lunch. It was a fairly large cafe and I was the only customer. Having finished my meal I lit a cigarette and settled back to read my paper. While I was enjoying my after-meal cigarette a 'gentleman' came in, got himself a sandwich and, ignoring every other empty table, came and sat at mine. As soon as he sat down he said, "do you mind not smoking while I eat". I fairly politely said that I did and that I also objected to him eating while I smoked. True story.
