We will probably see more of this kind of crime as finance levels get ever more desperate in society. We have seen a huge upsurge in metal thefts, even crime against war memorials where metals of all kinds are taken. I even saw an item in France where someone stole the entire bronze statue from a war memorial in the centre of a local town. Disgraceful.
However new measures have been introduced now where scrap yards have to account for their metals. Not too up to speed on the full details of this, but it seems a good move. No more under the counter payments with no questions asked.
But back to the smash n grab...anything like this must be fairly horrifying to onlookers, fortunately though this time nobody was injured but the potential is there for same...especially when criminals get ever more desperate.email: dover7@msn.com - 19 January 2012 14:35148233The thieves are to be roundly congratulated on their timing as the greatest danger to life and limb here is associated with speeding and driving without due care and attention. One hour or so earlier and there would doubtless have been more school children about.
In this, the digital age, it is hardly necessary for a window display of actual jewellery.
QVC or whatever it is called manages quite well without.
The goods will be insured, insurance is a saintly business after all.
The revving of the engine would IMHO have more to do with task-focus than noise masking.
Even Oscar Wilde averred he could resist everything except temptation.

Detectives investigating a smash and grab at a jewellers in Deal High Street yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 18 January 2012, have arrested four people.
Police were called to the shop at 4.51pm after a report that two men on a motorbike had pulled up outside, used a hammer to smash the window and grabbed a handful of diamond rings before making off.
Today, Thursday 19 January 2012, police arrested a 21-year-old man, a 20-year-old man and a 30-year-old man on suspicion of burglary. A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods. All four are from the Dover area and are currently in police custody.
Police continue to appeal for information about the incident.
