"Andy, I am fascinated. How is recognising UKIP's inherent xenophobia in any way bigotted?"
Simple really, Chris - you are tarring all those who believe that Great Britain would be better off outside the EU with the same brush, that the very belief of being independent of a massive European superstate is somehow xenophobic. Arrogant rubbish, in my book, the sort of desperate emotive phrase trawled up by those who cannot see that there just might reasoned belief that Great Britain does not need the EU for economic survival.
Some believe that this country could rely on historic ties with the Commonwealth for economic growth (witness the Prime Minister in India this week trying that very tack), some believe that being without the EU opens up much wider trade areas and others believe that the economic millstone of paying £48m per day to Europe is too much, too undemocratic and too bureaucratic. Nowhere in there does xenophobia raise its head; UKIP is by no means the BNP, as you're damn well aware, and you know full well that yours was a cheap insult designed to cause offence.
That is how it was bigoted, Chris.
