most of us make that mistake in our speech, i use the term the place needs hoovering when i own a vax, biro is another one that just means a ball point pen in everyday parlance.
can't think of any others at the moment, i bet some of our members can.

In parts of the middle east, lorries are colloquially known in Arabic as bedfords (pronounced bidfad). It is common to see adverts for 'Bedford Mercedes' or 'Bedford Volvo'.
