15:3071147I was informed this morning that Sid James daughter was in the Dover library yesterday signing book`s. Apparently, it was by ticket only at £3 a time, but it seems that these were scarce and the whole event went unadvertised. Any comment`s?

15:4471153why would anyone be interested enough to meet the daughter of sid james, unless she has forged a career without using the family name.

15:5771157You`re right Howard, but someone wanted to meet her this morning purely through her father`s famous name I suppose?

22:4371267I don't suppose the library sells books to make a profit, but they may do a lot of promoting of same, to encourage readers.
There are more things in libraries than books of course. Especially reference libraries.

22:4671269they do sell under borrowed books to make room for newer ones.
kath is right about the reference aspect, our own library is an alladins cave of local history.

23:0771277Oh yes, Howard, I have bought several very useful second-hand books from library sales. Many of out of date publications.
An Aladdin's cave is a good description.

07:0971280Apart from the slightly surreal nature of this thread - can I ask if this actually happened and if so why it wasn't promoted? Like many things in Dover, I could believe an "event" would o unnoticed............

09:2071295We were discussing Dover events last week in the shop during a quiet moment

. The concensus of opinion was that the majority of events in are badly publicised, we often hear about them when they are over but not before they happen.
Maybe there is a need for a couple of forthcoming events boards to be erected at both ends of the town where posters could be placed, this would help the large and small events.
