Reading in todays Dover express i see that buriel spaces are due to run out with only 200 or so spaces left in the town.I just couldnt believe my eyes when the article goes on to mention that the Dover district council are spending £10,000 on a wait for it "A cemetery consultant"for advice.By god how these local authoritys like to throw money at these consultants who it seems in many cases will just tell you the obvious.Seems to be the business to be in,maybe i can become a consultant for Bird poo,Waste paper bins,or maybe elderly domestic cats, the possibilities are endless.Honestly, ten grand for a cemetery consultant, surely theres better things to spend money on?

Obviously a grave problem.

Its finding suitable land thats the problem.Elmsvale residents did not want it near their homes.Water tables have to be studied.More to it than you think,

I would not want a new burial ground near my home either as it would probably devalue my home.
I think old cemeteries re-use ancient plots which seems a practical solution to me, luckily and I suppose aptly I will go up in flames.

this has come up in the past, i vaguely remember that elms vale had been earmarked for a cemetary and the residents opposed it.
this must have been the best part of a decade ago.

A burial ground beyond Harbour School is hardly near Elms Vale houses is it?
If the ground conditions are ok, then that valley would seem to be a perfect place.
Personally I'm surprised that houses haven't been built there. Or was it a tip at one time?

Goes back before Elms Vale campaign to stop new cemetery past the playing fields.
The Environment Agency objected to extension of existing cemeteries at Charlton etc. they say the decomposing bodies will pollute the water supplies. How many years have the existing cemeteries been there. Two centuries plus!!
