There is a large petition doing the rounds demanding that shops should not be allowed to open on that day. I have never seen the point of supermarkets opening as most households have enough food in to last until January. Locally there is no public transport resulting in many staff and potential shoppers being unable to reach the town centre anyway.

I do feel sorry for staff who work late Christmas Eve arranging windows and goods ready for the sale on Boxing day then not being able to overindulge on Christmas day itself.

The MPs debated it but the Government had already said they would not dictate to retailers when they could open. So why are they closed by law on Christmas day and Easter Sunday:?

Boxing day is good business for shops, theres some good deals to be done, just last year i got a new tv for half the price,i,d never buy just for the sake of it but we needed a new one. This boxing day i,ll try to get a new pc to replace this knackered one.Its always a good time for bargains,as good as some of the black friday deals if you shop around. As for staff having to work, its boxing day,my wife is a nurse at a care home and she will have to work on christmas day but thats life.

Sorry but I fail to see a comparison between caring for the elderly and/or vulnerable and dragging shop staff out of bed so that someone can get 20 quid off a telly. Logic dictates that if they were closed on Boxing day then the following day would see the same reductions.

Comparing those that complain of having to work on boxing day to those that have to work all hours Howard. Its the age we live in,those that have to work ,those that dont, those that have to be dragged out of bed so the likes of me can get a bargain wont be doing it voluntary, they,ll all be gettng paid. What next, ban all sunday trading?we should be going forwards not backwards. Now can you see a comparison, its within the topic of this thread isnt it.Maybe the day after boxing day would see reductions or maybe the day after that, but boxing day is the day it is ok.
