bit of people power here, maybe the campaigners against development in whitfield could take heart from this?

We should take heart from it. We will. Common sense must prevail!
They want to give away our green areas to development and bring in tens of thousands of settlers.

not sure that settlers is the right word alex, it conjures up a picture of the pilgrim fathers sailing up the dour in the "mayflower" waving bibles at the locals.
is whitfield ready to embrace christianity yet?

Even if it were the Pilgrim Fathers, it would still be settlers.
6000 houses, 6000 families.
There are plenty of empty houses in Dover, not a shortage for Dover's population for sure.

This is only a temporary respite - the developers will now be working on the planning officers and perhaps a few councillors to make them "see their side of it" - expect this to rear its ugly head again mid 2012 when everyone is focused on all things Olympic

A down side is that the nearby properties are still blighted if they want to sell they need a definitive decision.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

# 6..............Spot on.
Our regen/planning depts are no `Challenge`to the ``Talents`` of developers.
It happens most times that developers get their way in the end.Timing is all important plus the ``methods/tactics``and manipulations adopted.
Whitfield first phase...........................No affordable housing!!!!!
An added problem is our officers are outwitted by developers...............then `control` the Councillors committee.
Wish Sholden the best of luck but not holding breath.
Root and branch clearout required or try to get it right with an East Kent Council

This all shows the entity of the problem: it's not what the local residents want that counts, but what some authority decides has to happen that gets pushed through.
Shall we just all give up and say: oh ok, build 6,500 houses in Whitfield and Sholden if that is what you said you are going to do anyway.
In the end, one person out of a thousand will explain why we have to have these new houses, and the other 999 must follow.

it is all about the district having growth point status alex, dave and george will be wheeling barrow loads of folding stuff if development goes ahead.
the probem for me is why everything has to be built on green belt land when we have stacks of brownfield sites begging to be bulit on.

Good point, Howard. I've just looked up growth point status on Google, to see what it's all about, and also found an article on "growth point status brings major boost for future of Dover District".
I'll be researching the topic tonight and minting some online articles.
