What would they do about the increases in train-fares ? Increase the (Government) subsidy so the general tax-payer pays more, or reduce it, so the users pay more ? I think we should be told.

And billions have been spent on station upgrades and lines/train improvements and much more required.
The question was, who should pay for this, the general; tax-payer or the users ?

yes kieth a well known fact,which has been knocking around for some time.
but unfortuetly we are not connected to Europe and this or any other government wont do sod all about it.

i agree about some taxpayers money going into cutting rail fares brian, most commuters have no choice but to use the service and pay around a 100 quid a week for the privilege if they work in london.

And save £150+ a week on rent or mortgage payments by living in East Kent rather than London. And have countryside around them at weekends instead of noise and fumes. It's always been a tradeoff. I commuted to the City for many years from Canterbury and accepted that.
