As many will know September of 1944 was the battle of Arnhem. But I wonder how many people of Dover realise that between 26th and the 29th of September a battle took place to capture Calais thus stopping the shelling of Dover, the main units involved were Canadian infantry supported by tanks of the 141st regiment of the RAC[the Buffs] our own county regiment. The dead of this battle are buried in the Canadian military cemetery just off the A16 between Calais and Boulogne. Many times I have suggested that the someone representing the civil authorities should lay a wreath to say thank you. But I am not holding my breath.

I wasn't born here of course but I did hear something about this a few years ago - I believe it was an event to do with the Dover War Memorial Project. There was someone from the Canadian Military there too.
I was fortunate enough to have been invited, but I can't remember when it was - maybe 10 years ago ?
It would be good I agree Tom, if it was officially recognised; I'm not sure who would be the most appropriate body - Dover District Council or Dover Town.

I would have thought the town council would be the most appropriate body.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
