  Thank you so much for that Howard. My son was trying to get home from Canterbury to Thanet and phoned to ask if I knew why the top half of Canterbury was closed off and lots of police activity. I tried all ways to find out for him but couldn't until I logged on here. As usual my DF came to the rescue again. Thanks again Howard

  you're welcome jacqui, looks like things have calmed down the police are being very thorough as they are in these situations, just frustrating for people trying to get home.

  Suspect package on the railway and fire at M&S.... Usually Canterbury is so quiet in the news!

  The suspect package turned out to be a look-alike bomb, so no danger. The Police are trying to determine if the fire at M & S, the hoax bomb on the railway line and the incident at the cricket ground are linked.
  
  How can anyone be so stupid as to create all this aggravation - unless it was a practice run ? I hope they catch who ever did it.

  It bears some similarities to the chaos caused on the seafront here a short while ago. Bomb disposal teams were called etc with the whole area including the near side of the main road cordoned off. The package that time turned out to be a rucksack with wiring protruding and a mobile phone..some similarities to the latest story. Nobody was charged for the Dover one.
  
  Could this be some sort of trend, some sort of co-ordinated civil disturbance?
