"Beautiful city," said the young tourist to the bus driver yesterday. "The castle, the white rocks." I'd just sat down, probably just as well, but it made me think. "Lovely people," he added. He's not wrong about that, so maybe we need to be a bit prouder of it all?

There's a lot to be proud of
But we must address the negatives

Far more important to promote the positives as they far outweigh the few negatives that most of us know about.
We need more optimists as opposed to the pessimists to shout out about all the good people and places.

That's really well put, Jan. Easy to focus on the empty shops or the things that don't happen, but starting with the people, there's a lot to be content with. That doesn't mean complacent. Meanwhile, let's hope the Pilot above is just having a laugh...hard to tell when you can't hear it said.

Thanks, nice to know I occasionally write the correct thing even if I can be as pessimistic as the rest of us at times.
"hard to tell when you can't hear it said."...... which is why I use emoticons at times.

I live at remote Aycliffe and have the best view in Dover.. I can see the coast of France from my lounge. Around where I live there is so much history. Western Heights, two sets of gun emplacements, ranges, underground first aid post, two sets of WW2 AAA emplacements, cycle path, Samphire Hoe, Cliff tops walks, Pill boxes and Shakespeare Beach etc. Now if only we can get rid of the Dover TAP and A20 that was built through an area of outstanding beauty.
