The seal was seen in the Eastern Docks yesterday, it frequently frolics off the ends of the berths. Presumably the wash from the ferries throws up some interesting grub. Hopefully it will not wind up like the two poor creatures below. A DFDS ferry picked up a shark on her bulbous bow last thursday and I recalll the Dawn Merchant picking up a whale a few years ago, see below.

"Unfortunately, Thursday morning, DANA HOLLANDIA brought in a baby grey nurse shark on its bulb into the Port of Rotterdam. It was discovered when the vessel moored at the Rotterdam Shortsea Terminal. The shark got probably scooped somewhere between the ports of Cork in Ireland and Rotterdam. DANA HOLLANDIA serves our logistics container line route between Rotterdam and the Irish ports of Cork, Waterford, Belfast, en Dublin."

The Dawn Merchant went down to the Meddy after she finished on the Dover - Dunkerque run. She picked up a fifteen metre long fifteen ton whale on her bulbous bow whilst approaching the Barcelona pilot station. It took two hours to remove the carcass on arrival in port.
