It must be able to fly otherwise it wouldn't have got in my garden in the first place. First saw it at around 10 am the mother seems to have little interest.

I put food and water out early afternoon Brian, neither have been touched. The mother has suddenly reappeared but has not force fed the chick. If it doesn't drink soon it won't survive the piercing heat. The last time this happened the chick drank some water then bathed in the rest to cool down. Thankfully the cat has now left it alone due to being zonked out.

We had one similar aged gull to this in the garden the other evening, but it had gone by the morning.
Our cats had shown little interest after their initial curiosity so they did not have it, therefore it either managed to fly off or possibly a fox might have had a tasty meal.

Let's hope this one suddenly remembers how to fly, I know there were 3 chicks in the nest but the mother was nowhere to be seen all day until the evening. About 2 PM a Jackdaw(very rarely see one in my part of town) landed on the roof and approached the nest which is normally a death sentence for the occupants. Went out an hour later and two chicks were peering out of the nest. The itinerant walking into my kitchen about 15 minutes ago and when I chased it out the wings fluttered so maybe it will get the hang of this flying lark again.

It's too young to fly, most likely fell off. It'll be two or three weeks before it can fly, by which time you will be imprinted as it's mother and will never get rid of it. Have fun!

Alfie aged 4 and three quarters from next door has banged on my front door and demanded that his dad rescues it then climbs a ladder to put it on his roof.
