Feast your eyes on this beauty..
And all I ask for is a tall ship
and a star to guide it by..

Dunkirk is celebrating being awarded the French Regional Capital of Culture status with a series of celebratory events throughout the year. The celebrations aren't just artistic or cultural; they aim to provide insight into what makes the city's heart beat and act as a bridge between cultures. Previous Capitals of Culture have included Valenciennes in 2007 and Béthune in 2011.
With ferry travel from as little as £29 each way for a car and up to four passengers, now is a great time to hop over to Dunkirk to soak up the city's culture first hand. Dunkirk is just a two hour crossing from the port of Dover and DFDS Seaways provides the only ferry service that sails directly into Dunkirk, Northern France.
Dunkirk is a seaside destination offering 15km of superb beaches and dunes, delicious food with a huge range of restaurants, great shopping with over 400 shops and fascinating visitor attractions, such as a recently re-landscaped 27-hole golf course. Dunkirk is also the scene of the greatest evacuation operation in military history, during World War Two and has a wealth of monuments and museums for budding historians.
One of the highlights of the Dunkirk celebrations for us sea-lovers include:
30 May - 2 June: Tall Ship Stopover in Dunkirk - Includes fanfares, sailor sing-songs, concerts with afternoon tea on board the Love Boat and great evening concerts. There will also be a dozen great old ships that will be open to the public for visits and boat rides, including the second largest ship in the world!
