the RSPB think that there are a shortage of sea birds.
apparently the shore bit is protected, but the sea bit is a problem to them.
one of the areas designated for protection is the bit between kingsdown and dover.
how does this work?
i cannot see the practicalities here.

Howard yes I saw that about Dover on the BBC. It showed a picture of a cormorant in their feature. Dover has quite a few cormorants and they appear here along the seafront regularly. They pose elegantly on those lampshade marker things in the harbour, and in between posing, fish gaily by plunging into the sea and emerging with mackerel between their substantial beaks.
I have a picture somewhere will look it up.

Yes here we go...not a great one but nevertheless it shows a resting Cormorant taking a break from snacking on the local sealife!
Im hoping to get a picture of one with magnificent outstretched wings one of these days.

At least the Cormorant appears to be obeying the DHB warning sign to swimmers ..which is more than can be said for the 'Erberts who fling themselves off there each summer usually when the Regatta is in full swing...

i love the cormorants, watched one year when one triumphantly brough a fish to the surface.
the seagulls homed in, the cormorant went under then emerged about 10 seconds later further out, brandishing the fish to the gulls again .
great entertainment.
