16:1586667I first played this game back in the 70s as a board game and only very recently on the internet. One of the skills of the game is to get rid of difficult letter`s such as Q, Z, V etc, which are a little more difficult to find words for. All good fun. Now to this internet version. Each day on logging into the game, there`s a `Word of the Day`. Todays word happens to be WAQF. What`s wrong with this? Well, nothing really, except for the fact that it gives an easy way to use the letter `Q` without needing a `U`. Just one other thing though, this word isn`t in fact english, it`s a Muslim word meaning an endowment. So, is this a sign of things to come, and why stop at this word? No disrespect to Muslim words, but shouldn`t Scrabble remain one language or the other?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

19:1786694Howard, it`s a Muslim word, or at least that`s what the owner of the Scrabble set up on here tells us.

20:0986697I have my wife curremtly studying a scrabble dictionary in an effort to beat me
I agree that the words that can be used now spoil the games. What happened to the good old days when only the Oxford dictionary was used? Then the game was a challenge
A lot of the words in the scrabble dictionary will never make the Oxford dictionary
This is just another case of Dumbing now the system so that the less skilled can compete on an equal footing

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

without wishing to be pedantic it is impossible for a religion to have a language.
"waqf" is used mainly by muslims,"back packs loaded with explosives" is sometimes used by adherents to that faith but is an english phrase.
trevor
i have that dictionary in the house also that i refer to, most people have a dictionary in their home, wouldn't it be easier for scrabble contestants to just agree on words by using the book "in situ"?
not sure how this would work in internet games though.

21:2886707Howard, you`ll have to tell that to the internet Scrabble company, I`m merely repeating their words. Fancy a game?
