I don't know about that. Although BBC is seen as the intellectual half of the telly conjoined twins, commercial and state stations, it has always had an eye on the ratings on BBC1. I don't like telly much, prefer the radio, CDs or nothing at all, but there is a place for a bit of proper entertainment. Not the dreadful likes of that jungle trial by telly thingy or other Sleb stuff, but some good comedy or documentaries - love the Attenborough stuff. And people seem to enjoy those talent programmes, same as they liked Hughie Greens show and the Palladium at weekends. So, on the whole, what's the harm.
