What an interesting diversion from the thread title.
I spent many hours in my youth cycling through River and trekking along the river Kearsney banks without actual battering my brain with local knowledge.
The area has always been different from the coastal regions and on one jaunt through the lanes in the Alkham area I actually came upon a farmer broadcasting seed by hand in a large field!
This was back in the early 50’s but I expect that they have moved on a bit since then!
A little delving on the internet provided some more info:

Interesting to see that the Parish of River was established on 1st April 1987……….I wonder why that date was chosen.
It’s strange how the geographical position of a place doesn’t always appear to be attached to a place you would expect. Born and bred in Folkestone I always used to think that Capel Le Ferne was part of the town, but, like River, it has many quirky anomalies regarding its attachment.

There must be many more places that seem to defy reason as regards their placing in Council areas. Perhaps this could prompt others to discuss the ones that may perplex them.
This could even be a good subject for a new thread or to erect post Brexit border controls in Kent.
P.S. You only need a few bay leaves for a Bouquet Garni……don’t dunk in the whole tree!
