Didn't add this to Tom's Jim Marshall tribute as I know from recent posts that many have fond memories of the Dubliners, good that he got his lifetime award at the BBC Folk Awards a few weeks ago.
Ahhh jeez a sad day. sad news. I saw the original Dubliners with Barney over on the left of the stage playing up a storm..with Ronnie Drew rasping out the oul tunes and Luke Kelly belting them out and the other guys all fab players. What a combination...you were assaulted by a wall of fabulous noise when they started playing. The went from a pub band to big performers overnight..an overnight success that took many years.
Howard, all good friends of mine and I do believe it's at a local hostelry by the Whitfield roundabout in the late afternoon, the barrel of cider is awaiting!
That is sad news as said before have never seen them, but have heard all about them in great detail, sad when all the original line up have gone, but i'm sure that their music will never die.
So so sad to see that Barney has passed away Ah! such brilliant memories of the Dubliners playing live in the auld country will be something I will always cherish.
