Sadly one of Dover longest serving landlords , Pat Edwards of the Admiral Harvey passed away last night.
He will be sadly missed by many dovorians, who down the years have been barred for life and welcomed back the following week when sober-ish, this link has some photos from the early 90's that clearly show the sort of atmosphere he created there that exists to this day.
I shall miss him greatly. Rest in peace Pat.

I doubt that the pub will reopen.

They were clearing out the pub a couple of days ago and yes I would be surprised if anyone takes it on.

Unfortunately his children having thought about keeping it on, decided to close.
It will be a shame if we lose another. Unfortunately it has never had the business it had in it's heyday when it looked out on the back of the engineering works.

All of you out there, there must be a way or someone knows someone with money and guts for a dear old pub.
For Dover history, for all the landlords and all the customers that pub ever had, in their memory it must stay a pub

If sold and the trade is there it will stay open if not it will go, people moan like mad when somewhere closes but often hardly ever (or never) use the place.

From what I have read here the deceased was the pub and without his personality it would have closed long ago like many others. It can only be converted into flats and hopefully the façade will be kept to remind people of its past.
