  Howard there are studies showing that 'anchor developments' can also be highly detrimental to small businesses, with few being prepared (or able to afford) to compete. A better idea would be to market the new shops on a more specialist basis, encouraging the computer retailers or other fields in. A mix of computer suppliers, software and games suppliers would compliment each other and provide a destination for those wanting to shop for such things. It would also allow existing and new businesses to continue in the rest of the town. Better than "come to Dover we got supermarkets".
