  Individuals are reluctant to put themselves forward and having to run the gauntlet of trial by social media. There are people who spend hours trawling various sites to try to dig up whatever dirt they can - going back to teenage years. I doubt any of us are without things we’ve said or done that we would rather forget and of which we aren’t proud, but would we be happy to have our faults highlighted? Any comments are always up for scrutiny and I suspect there are many very talented individuals who would rather not put themselves though it. A huge pity because the electorate miss out.
