We sprinkle a bit of white pepper over the bags, it is 100% effective in keeping the gulls off.

Some of this is because people put their rubbish out at the wrong time, or even the wrong day - not all I grant you.
There is also how the rubbish is collected and no thought (it seems) to the rubbish left on the floor. People should have more thought about the rubbish they put out.

I'm having problems with a seagull that was fed by the people next door over a few years, they have now moved and he still comes looking for food.
I am the only one that uses bags in the street so I have to keep them in the shed until collection day then I have been sprinkling them with black pepper with some success. will have to try the white stuff.

Roger, the rubbish is collected from everywhere and bagged in grey binbags. It wasnt rubbish put out by the residents. It was one of those hardworking rubbish collectors. Its sad to see all their work is for the seagulls. I understood, that the rubbish van drives around to collect them? Obviously I must be wrong ... anyhow the lovely neighbourhood cleared it all away.
