I can't believe, despite living in East Kent all my life and Dover the last 25 years, I have never visited this. I hear it is a archaeological gem, but the poor reviews I've heard of how visitors have been treated, the state of the place and the fact when I do remember about it, it's never open, so I've never been.
Run by volunteers is always very difficult and costs are horrible at the moment and likely to get worse, but why doesn't it get the backing of a charity like English Heritage, National Trust? or even DDC?
I imagine there is a background to which I am not aware of, but it does seem a shame.
