True, Ray. Nevertheless, I think we need to cut cyclists a bit of rope. Anybody cycling on the roads in Dover is taking their lives in their hands. They are being passed by endless streams of trucks a matter of inches away and it is only a matter of time before they get mashed into the tarmac. I wonder how many cyclists lives have been saved already by them taking to the pavements? Also, every person riding a bike is one less person driving a car with all the damage that has the potential to cause.
It is swings and roundabouts, and we are only hearing one side of the story here. The last time I rode a bike was umpteen years ago when I came to a sudden rather painful halt when the front wheel abruptly parked itself in a drain cover in the Eastern Docks. I have no desire to repeat the experiment, particularly since I live on top of a hill! Nevertheless, I feel that every effort should be made to encourage people to cycle wherever possible (other people, not me!).
