'1940s Wartime Weekend' at Dover Transport Museum 27/28 April 2013
Following last years' very successful event, Dover Transport Museum is pleased to host their special event 'The 1940s Wartime Weekend' which commemorates the vital role that Dover played as both a Port and vital hub of national defence during WW2, in addition to highlighting the contribution of those on the Home Front, and that of our Allies, throughout those war years.
The Event will be inspected by 'HM Queen Elizabeth', a local lady historian who accurately portrays the then Queen (the late Queen Mother) as she was often seen during those war years, visiting the bombed towns and factories of Great Britain. Arrival 12.30, subject to enemy action.
Expected displays include:
. Military and civilian period vehicles
. Military & Home Front displays and demonstrations.
. Period Band and Dance Group
. Replica 1940 Bf109 Messerschmitt aircraft (subject to availability, courtesy of Rex Cadman, organiser of the War & Peace Revival Show at Folkestone Racecourse)
. Military Vehicle Trust
. Invicta Military Vehicle Preservation Society (IMPS)
. Individual private owners of period military and civilian transport
Displays by:
. The famous Victory Wartime Band
. 'Tacky Annie's' Lindy Hop dancers
. 212 Squadron RAF Living History Group (Battle of Britain era 1940)
. The Rifles Living History Society (Defence of Calais 1940)
. Utility Jude (wartime Ministry of Food demonstrations)
. Forward to Victory (Clothing demonstrations: 'HM Queen')
. Combined Ops Group (U.S. War Correspondents)
. Many Fronts Living History Group (Russian Forces 1943-45)
. 41 FSU, RAMC Living History Group (medical & surgical display)
And of course, all the usual fascinating exhibits that form the collection of the Dover Transport Museum.
Dover Transport Museum can be visited at Willingdon Road, Whitfield, Dover, Kent CT16 2NX
