Here is my latest Newsletter - I started sending it last night and finished this morning.

    Good Mornning

In today's Newsletter, we have information on the following.

    Fund-raising for the Stroke Association
Update on the World-War 11 week-end at Dover Transport Museum
    Dover Town Carnival date
    Harriet Quimby Quiz-Night

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Stroke Association: As you enjoy your Sunday morning lie-in today, spare a thought for Claire Jones who will be embarking on a 26.2 mile run around the nation's capital along with 36000 other runners, participating in the world-famous London Marathon. Claire will be raising funds for the Stroke Association.

Claire had a target of £2000 to raise that will go towards the work of the charity, and hit that on 7th April. She says: "I am so grateful for all the support I have received so far, but I want to keep going with the fundraising and smash the target to smithereens". She is currently at £2268.

A Stroke is a brain attack and is the UK's third biggest killer and the leading cause of adult disability. The Stroke Association is the only national charity solely concerned with combating strokes in people of all ages, including children.

It funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation and helps stroke patients and their families directly, through its community services.

Claire has been training since before Christmas to run the 26.2 miles, running four times a week including long runs of up to 20 miles. It is her third time but she is determined that it will be her best, having overcome some difficult, hot conditions around the course in 2009 and 2011. It will also be the most special, because of her reasons for doing it this year.

Claire states: "I am doing this for my Grandmother Lynne who suffered a very bad stroke in 2010 and has been left severely disabled by it. The Stroke Association provided our family with information and support. I want to give something back and I want my Grandmother to know that what happened to her wasn't in vain, that others will benefit from the funds that I can raise in honour of her."

If you would like to support Claire in her London Marathon Challenge, please visit www.justgiving.com/claire-j-jones to make a donation. You can also support Claire in other ways, by entering the sweepstake to guess her finish time or by coming along on a charity walk on 5th May. To find out more please call Claire on 07545777131 or email her on clairejjb@me.com.

The 1940s Wartime Weekend Military Vehicle & Living History Event - Saturday & Sunday 28/29th April 2012

Below, is some further information I have received from one of the organisers of the event:

"'The 1940s Wartime Weekend' at Dover Transport Museum aims to commemorate the vital role that Dover played as both a Port and vital hub of national defence during WW2, in addition to highlighting the contribution of those on the Home Front, and that of our Allies, throughout those war years.

We are most gratefully anticipating that the Right Worshipful, The Town Mayor of Dover, Councillor Mrs. Veronica Philpott and the Chairman of Dover District Council Councillor Sue R. Nicholas, will be attending the Event.

The Event will also be visited and "inspected" by 'HM Queen Elizabeth', a local lady historian who accurately portrays the then Queen Mother as she was often seen during those war years - visiting the bombed towns and factories of Great Britain.

    Expected displays include:
    Military and period vehicles
Military & Home Front displays and demonstrations
    Period Band and Dance Groups
M10 'Tank Destroyer'(tracked 'tank' type armoured vehicle)
Fullsize replica Spitfire or Hurricane aircraft
    (subject to availability)

There will also be a Raffle to win a Jeep.

Dover Town Carnival News from Dover Town Carnival:
The Carnival will take place this year on Sunday 8th July, again Carnival will pick up as Dover Regatta finishes.

After the success of last year's Carnival we are hoping for even more support this year and as such the Entry Forms are being sent out now. As always there is a limited availability on trucks from Martin Husk at Coombe Valley Transport, please contact them directly to book.

This year's entry forms are attached; we hope you can join us.

Bloco Fogo the lead band from last year have been re-booked so we are certain to hit the streets with a Bang.
Carnival is a great way to advertise your business or services, as well as collecting money for the Association on route you are able to hand out information to the general public lining the streets of Dover. Carnival usually attracts a great presence both on-line and in the local press and is always featured in the Dover Film Festival film of the year. Further advertising for your business.

This year we are hoping to produce a Carnival Programme which will list all entries with contact details and we aim for it to be available by mid June (this will depend on advertising revenue). Advertisements in this A5 booklet are available and if you are interested please contact me for further details.

    Thank you,

Harriet Quimby Quiz Night: Hopefully you will have heard of Harriet Quimby ? The first woman to fly across the Channel - in 1912, in one of Louis Bleriot's planes. A replica of the plane was at the Dover Transport Museum last week, I went up to see it and it really was amazing to think that people could fly across the Channel in it. Sadly, Harriet Quimby died just a few months after her historic flight.

There is an attached a flyer and poster for a fundraising quiz on Saturday 5th May. If you could put the poster up at work or on any other noticeboards you can think of to promote the quiz - it is (almost) essential that the place is filled to the rafters of people taking part in the quiz-night.

If you can raise as many teams as possible from friends, colleagues, lovers, fellow down-and-outs and so on, I should be very grateful. In an ideal world, we'd like to raise £500 from this night - with your help that is a real possibility!

    Kindest regards
