Hi
Here is my latest email, sent out today.
"Good Morning.
In today's newsletter, I have information on the following:
Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club's "Roger Marples" Beer Festival.
Dover's Big Local Lottery money
Dover Film Festival
Sea Sports Centre activities
====================================
RCPYC Beer Festival is on between the 1st. and 3rd. of March.
It's not just for Club members, everyone is welcome, so if you have some spare time over that week-end and you enjoy a real ale or two, please do go along.
There'll be a great atmosphere, some great food and music and of course, great ales. If you're not a fan of Ales, there's lagers, a good choice of wines and the usual spirits; you may enjoy your visit enough to want to join - you'll be in good company.

Dover's Big Local £1 million Lottery money: You may have heard a bit about the £1 million that Dover has been awarded to improve the Town Centre environment. There have been two meetings so far and I reproduce below, some information from the most recent one - last Saturday, the 16th. February.
"Carl Adams, the main co-ordinator of Big-Local, mentioned 'Getting Started' funding: £20,000 on top of the £1 million to allow us, as a community to create a profile of Dover as it is now: all the things that are good about our town (including people, places, orgs, clubs, societies etc.) and areas for improvement, (spatial, economic, social, environmental and cultural); and a 'vision' for Dover (over the 10 year period of Big Local) expressed in a 'Big Local Plan' that will allow the community to start investing £1 million.
The community will choose a 'locally trusted organisation' (LTO) to manage getting started funds. This can be any legal entity with a track record of managing money that the community trusts. Being LTO for getting started funding has no bearing on managing Big Local money once the Plan is approved, (though the community can, of course, choose them again, if we wish).
It should be noted that the 10 years do not begin until we hand said 'Plan' into Local Trust, founded on extremely strong community engagement and wide participation. Therefore, 'Getting Started' funding needs to be invested wisely to enable anyone to get involved in Dover Big Local, should they wish. No-one should be excluded provided they adhere to a simple code of conduct.
There are no deadlines for Big Local; communities move at their own pace.
Next steps for 'Getting People Involved' in Dover Big Local.
Dover Big Local launch event/party.
· It was widely accepted that Dover Town Hall provides the best venue for launching Dover Big Local.
· A group of 'Launch Facilitators' volunteered; ('facilitate' was deemed a more appropriate word than 'organise').

Dover's Sea Sports Centre: Lots of activities to get involved in.
There are 3 web-sites that offer information on various water-sport activities:
www.doverseasafari.co.uk
www.doverseasports.co.uk
www.dovermarineservices.com
Just to give you an idea of whats happening.
Currently there are local young people on a 5 day course training to be RYA sailing instructors. All ranging from 16-18yrs old, so great to see local young people wanting to do something enjoyable and useful.
The social aspect for the rowing and sailing clubs are being worked on at the moment and if plans go well 2014 will see some positive changes.
They are working closely with the yacht club, so there hopefully will see more yachts in the harbour training.
Find out how you or your children (even Grandchildren ?) can get involved, by looking on the above web-sites.
Kind Regards
Roger
