Dover District Heritage Strategy: Dover District Council have a launched a Heritage Strategy and would like your views; please see below:
DOVER DISTRICT HERITAGE STRATEGY - YOUR VIEWS SOUGHT
From our iconic white cliffs to a wealth of historic sites and attractions, Dover District is known around the world for its heritage - and now a leading strategy is being developed to ensure this heritage shapes the future of the area, and your views are sought.
Dover District has an amazing rich historic environment, and these assets have played a major role in shaping the district's development and identity. A special Heritage Strategy has now been drafted to ensure that these assets continue to play a clear role in shaping future regeneration and development.
Dover District Council, in collaboration with English Heritage, has commissioned Kent County Council's Heritage Conservation Team to prepare the strategy. It is one of the first such strategies in the country to be created since the Government published its heritage policies in the National Planning Policy Framework.
The Heritage Strategy seeks to identify and understand the many historic assets in Dover District, and how their special character could contribute to the future of the area, and key objectives in the Local Development Framework. The strategy will also provide advice and guidance for the management of historic assets, and information for funding bids that may arise in the future.
A consultation has been launched, and views are sought on the Draft Dover District Heritage Strategy. Dover District Council is also including a heritage section in the Land Allocations Document, and proposed text is included as part of the consultation.
All views received will be taken into account before the Council finalises the Heritage Strategy, and the text for the Land Allocations Document. The Land Allocations Document would then be submitted to Government for approval, which involves a period of representations and an Examination in Public.
The consultation began on 21 June, and runs until midnight on 16 August 2012. For further information and to make comments, please see

Buying the White Cliffs - White Cliffs of Dover Appeal
I am writing to give you notice of the launch of the National Trust's biggest ever coastal fundraising campaign.
As you know, the National Trust already cares for 7km of the White Cliffs of Dover but, until now, there has always been a missing piece of the jigsaw - the privately-owned 1.35km stretch of the Cliffs between the Visitor Centre to the west and the South Foreland Lighthouse to the east.
A once-in-a-generation opportunity has recently arisen for the Trust to acquire this missing stretch of the Cliffs so that the whole iconic landscape overlooking the Port of Dover can be managed for the enjoyment of visitors; benefit the local economy; and have the best interests of nature and wildlife in mind.
To secure this nationally significant piece of land we must raise £1.2 million by the end of 2012.
We are launching the White Cliffs of Dover Appeal to help us to reach this ambitious target. We are expecting significant national and regional media coverage of the appeal which will celebrate both the grand historic associations and the intimate personal memories associated with this beautiful landscape.
I hope that as the appeal campaign progresses over the summer you will perhaps find the time to visit the White Cliffs.
I look forward to keeping you informed as to the progress being made on the appeal. In the meantime, do visit
www.nationaltrust.org.uk/whitecliffsappeal for more information.
I very much hope we can count on your support.
Yours sincerely,
Hilary McGrady
Director for London and South East
hilary.mcgrady@nationaltrust.org.uk
Can you help the National Trust buy this missing piece ?

Kind Regards and Keep well
