This is the latest newsletter I'm in the process of sending round:

    Good Morning

In today's newsletter, we have information on:

Sponsored climb of the Grand Shaft
Raising Funds for Help 4 Heroes
    DFDS promotes Brass-Band competition

    ========================================
Three young members of the Western Heights Preservation Society are carrying out an amazing (mad?) feat of climbing the Grand Shaft staircase on the 7th April to the equivalent of MOUNT EVEREST between them.
It is to raise money for the Western Heights Preservation Society to enable them to replace stolen tools and the creation of a dry secure tool store inside the Fort to ensure that their excellent volunteers can continue the good work that is carried out up there, which enable their superb Open Days to take place.

If people would like to sponsor these 3 girls, the WHPS have set up a "just-giving" page - whatever you can afford to give; it will also be good to see people there on the day to support them.
    http://www.justgiving.com/whps

This will also tie in with the more frequent opening of the Grand Shaft. It will be open on the 3rd Sunday of the month 11am til 4pm from April to September, plus the July/October open weekends and Heritage Open Days in September.

    A few figures
    The Grand Shaft is 140ft.
    Everest is 29,000 ft.
This means to scale the height of Everest, the Grand Shaft will have to be climbed 210 times.
The girls will be doing a relay so that's 70 times each.

They are really looking forward to this and really want to raise some money for WHPS. So please give them all the support you can! They are mad and very brave!

In June 2012 Paul Isles, the Editor to Dover Life, will be taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Help for Heroes, he is hoping that you will be able to support him in one of two ways.

Despite being well over 40 and slightly overweight (Paul's words, not mine) he will be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in a 24 hour period across 30th June/1st July (which also happens to be Armed Forces Weekend), the expedition is being organised by Evolution Outdoors Ltd.

Every penny raised will go to H4H - Paul is hoping to raise at least £2,500 so anything you can afford to give will be greatly received and appreciated, not just by him of course, but also by our servicemen and women for whom H4H represents a return to some sort of life.

To donate, please visit Paul's webpage: http://www.bmycharity.com/Islesy - again, this page is hosted by H4H so every penny will go to the charity and not get lost in admin fees.

Please spread the word amongst your friends and colleagues and if you can help with fundraising, please let Paul know.
If you are a businessman and you'd like to arrange corporate sponsorship, Paul is more than happy to carry logos, banners etc and will arrange for photographs to be taken and distributed.

A stunningly generous donation from Stephen Burt at www.flywithaspitfire.co.uk means that every sponsorship of £10.00 or more for this Three Peaks Challenge 2012 will be entered into a prize draw to win a GOLD SPITFIRE SORTIE EXPERIENCE worth £399.00 (details at www.flywithaspitfire.co.uk/gold-spitfire-experience), whilst Vista Leisure have provided Gym Membership and Personal Trainers to oversee these preparations.

Thank you for your time and support in advance.

    Paul Isles

    Studio Manager

    DFDS launches European Brass-Band competition

DFDS Seaways (formerly Norfolkline) is sponsoring a unique brass band contest, as 15 brass bands from all over Europe compete for a £5,000 winning prize - and a recording contract.

The contest, which is being held in Dover on 11 February, will see bands from all sections competing for the sought after prize, performing three pieces in front of a panel of adjudicators.

As well as the winning band, a £500 prize will also be awarded to the best soloist (who, along with the winner also receives a recording contract with New Eden Studio in Dover), and also the best non-Championship band (if not the overall winner) will receive £1,000.

The event culminates in an evening concert, featuring the European and British Brass Band Open Champions, the Cory Band as lead performers.

The Brass Band Contest will be held at Dover Town Hall on 11 February 2012, commencing at 9am. Tickets will be available on the door priced at £5.

The evening concert with the Cory Band will be held in Nye Hall at the Duke of York's Royal Military School in Dover at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £18 and will be available from the Box Office at Forwoods Music (Phone: 01304 872 812) or direct from Graham Harvey (Phone: 07788 723370 or email: graham3968@hotmail.com)

    Have a good week-end.

    Roger
