You may remember me sending an email round about Claire Jones running in the London Marathon to raise funds for children with Leukaemia ?
I have received an email from Claire who is running in the Virgin London Marathon in 2012, this time to raise funds for the Stroke Association - here is Claire's email:
" I am running the 2012 Virgin London Marathon for the Stroke Association in recognition of my grandmother Lynne, a stroke survivor.
Lynne suffered a serious stroke in 2010, and is still learning to live with its consequences. She was one of the lucky ones, she had treatment within 3 hours, thanks to the F.A.S.T. campaign which my aunt Gill had remembered when she found her, otherwise who knows whether she would still be with us.
The Stroke Association work tirelessly to raise awareness of how to prevent strokes, as well as how to recognise them and seek help quickly when they happen, and how to support victims and survivors and their families in the aftermath. Anyone can have a stroke, no matter what their age.
Suspect a stroke? Act FAST
What is FAST?
FAST requires an assessment of three specific symptoms of stroke.
Facial weakness - can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
Arm weakness - can the person raise both arms?
Speech problems - can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?

Please help me to raise money for them to continue their invaluable work by buying a ticket to come to my fantastic fun-filled Race Night on Saturday 11th February 2012 in Dover! (venue details to be announced in due course). All games, raffle tickets and races will be £1 per entry - so start saving those pound coins now!
Prices are £8 per adult and £4 per child under 16, or £40 per table of 6. This covers the cost of running the event - hall-hire, organiser, and food, so that everything we make on the night goes directly to the charity.
Refreshments will be sold on the evening (but please bring your own alcohol).
A fancy dress competition will also be held, at £1 an entry, with an exciting prize for the winner. A must for the kids!

Claire has asked me to spread the word, so put the date in your 2012 diary. It will be a night not to be missed! You can buy your ticket in person from Claire who needs to sell the tickets in advance.

Claire is also looking for local businesses to sponsor some of the races (suggested donation is £20 per race but any amount is welcome) and/or donate raffle prizes.

As you know, The Royal British Legion are responsible for the Poppy-Appeal for the Rememberence Day Commemmorations on the 11th. of the 11th. each year.
They also do an incredible amount of fundraising and good work for our injured and disabled armed forces personnel.
There is a Poppy-Appeal web-site where you can purchase some good quality and worthwhile things that will be useful for you and help raise valuable funds for them.
