  there will be many anecdotes about roger, let me be the first.
  
  on the top deck of a bus from folkestone to dover a few years back and roger and his wife were sitting in one of the front seats, i was about half way back.
  
  a young herbert and his giggly girl friend got on and sat in the other front seats and started to blast music from their new sound system.
  
  as per usual the rest of us tutted and shook our heads, roger calmly put down his copy of the times leaned across and in a clear voice said "would you mind turning that down"?
  
  i couldn't see the the young scrotes face but watched as both of his ears turned bright red before turning the thing off.
