  Some years ago I was chatting to a couple of guests having breakfast at the table in our front window. Opposite is a brick wall over the entrance to the culvert which diverts the Dour under the old cinema. To my horror a large rat crawled up the wall and started slowly along the top. To my even greater horror another one came from the other end of the wall and they moved towards each other. Within a few seconds they were mating furiously in full view. Fortunately I was able to distract our guests until the rats had done the business and run away back to the river. Not an event I wanted to see reported in an online review!
