Sorry to hear about the power cut, it all seemed quite exiting to a schoolboy in the 1970s...candlelight and a battery radio made it special.
However, we were lucky to still have a coal-fired hot water system and parrafin stoves in the rooms, so did not really miss Captain Scarlet on B&W 405 line TV and a three-bar electric fire all that much.
It does seem that too much relies on the'leccy these days for even in a shot power-cut the ntral heating will not work without an electric spark to ignite it and a pump to circulate it.
