When will people realise that supermarkets are a rip off and now so vast that the 'convenience' argument is destroyed by a 400yd walk across the sprawling car park and a hike to the far corner of a massive shed, through a sea of people smacking their children, to get a pint of milk. - 4 January 2013 11:02208442On the other hand, DT1 - you can avoid all that by doing your shop on-line and get all that convenience delivered to your door... I have a two weekly Sainsbury delivery (sometime by Kieth's brother...) and never have to step inside one of those 'massive sheds' you refer to after a 'hike across the sprawling car park'......

In Dover, it was a walk down to get my meat from the Charlton centre, fruit and veg in the market square and usually the reward of a pint in Blakes.
My Saturdays are now pretty much the same but the route around Deal, with the reward being in The Just Reproach.
The money saved by this way of shopping has always more than paid for the pint! - 4 January 2013 12:19208470i am with daz and baz on the subject of supermarkets was in asda just before christmas, looked around and decided it would take too long to find what i wanted.

Many food products come from China, and in China, as in India, there have been some very wet summers, as in England and Wales. It is thought to be due to climatic change.
So what we might be seeing, is that China has less apples to sell to the West, after many of our own orchards have already been mowed down and outsourced to China.
